Title: Woodall gets second chance to play ball
Post by: pmull on June 22, 2011, 11:18:05 AM
Justin Woodall swears he has no regrets giving up a $1.6 million bonus from the Mets to play football at Alabama. "The atmosphere at Alabama," he says inside the Hudson Valley Renegades' dugout, "you can't buy."

He capped off a terrific college football career by helping Alabama win the 2009 national title. A two-year starter at strong safety, Woodall figured to make a living in the NFL. He came out of the 2010 combine expecting to be drafted somewhere between Rounds 3 and 5.

But Woodall learned firsthand the uncertainty of the NFL draft. He wasn't taken.

Once he endured the initial shock, Woodall "shook it off pretty fast." After all, he says, "I knew I still had baseball."
