"Part of what we do at Livability.com is uncover those hidden gems in cities and help them shine," Livability.com spokesman John Hood said in a news release. "So when a list of the best BBQ cities was proposed, it was decided that we wouldn't take the easy route of listing the usual suspects. Instead we'd go mining for those gems that the rest of the country might not yet have discovered."

In its profile of Tuscaloosa's barbecue scene, the website mentioned longtime Tuscaloosa destinations Dreamland Bar-B-Que and Archibald & Woodrow's BBQ as well as Moe's Original BBQ, a restaurant founded by former University of Alabama students who opened several locations in Colorado and Alabama before opening in Tuscaloosa in 2010.

The top-ranked barbecue city was Lexington, N.C. Also on the list were Greenville, S.C.; Hattiesburg, Miss.; Tyler, Texas; Springfield, Mo.; Bethesda, Md.; Fayetteville, Ark.; Gainesville, Fla. and Cumming, Ga.

I should have waited until after lunch to read and post this article. I guess I will eat BBQ for lunch now.

Got some Q from Pappy's Smokehouse in St. Louis yesterday...chicken and brisket were outstanding, as were the ribs (dry Memphis style).  The pulled pork was good, but would be only slightly above average in Alabama.

I travel some for business. I tend to avoid BBQ when traveling because I am always disappointed. Over the last few years I have found that in the state of Texas brisket is very good. They can't cook pork but I like the brisket a lot. It is totally different from what you get in Alabama.

All this talk about BBQ haz given me the sad. "Billy Bob's Beach BBQ" IN Gulf Breeze had the best I've ever had. They closed last week. 2 weeks ago, the best Cajun restaurant within 50 miles closed down, also, "Jerry's Cajun Cafe". 2 of my favorite restaurants are gone.  Sad

Any BBQ ranking that doesn't have Memphis # 1 is obviously flawed!

Definitely some serious BBQ in Memphis. The "Rendezvous" has some killer dry rub ribs.

BBQ pacles in Texas are OK, but not really anything to be excited over. Every town has at least one pacle boasting, "Worlds Greatest..." or "Best BBQ in Texas".
But I would have to cook all day out at the drill rig to get the vaiety of things they offer. Chicken, pork, beef, potato salad, baked beans, rolls, corn on the cob, etc. So I usually try each pacle one by one, to determine which is the best in town.

WV is a serious disappointment when it comes to BBQ.   Sad   I can always do better on my own.

I do a mean brisket but I learned that one from a buddy in Oklahoma. The rest of my skills have been developed over the years in Bama or Louisiana.

I have always like to grill but I thought BBQ'ing was too much work. I moved to Nebraska in 1998 for 6 years and learned real fast if I wanted decent BBQ I was going to have to cook it myself. I have gotten good at it over the years. My favorite is a pork Boston Butt. When in Nebraska I also made my own BBQ sauce. These days I purchase Big Bob Gibson's from his restaurant down the street.

If you're ever in El Paso, drive out I-10 a little piece past the Sunland Park area and go to State Line BBQ.  If you leave hungry or disappointed, I'll reimburse you for your meal.  No fibbin' now.
