I'm not a bug fan of vandalism-- Sandusky's house or not. Any attention drawn to PSU needs to be positive in nature or they "just keep digging".

I'm not sure there is any case at all to be made for Mike McQueary. But before I'm flamed for weakening my position:

Yes, we all agree he should have intervened at once. Stop it. He is a big boy- stomp a puddle in Sandusky.

Now this. It is likely that since he was a player, he has heard rumors of Sandusky. Everyone knows he likes boys. He finally sees it with his own eyes. The kid is not screaming for help. He is tortured by it-- talks to his Dad. His Dad says, "Enough is enough. Tomorrow we go to Paterno's house". They tell Paterno --not in the way Paterno says--but actually what he saw. He waits and nothing happens to Sandusky. His Dad says, "Well Son, we tried". Sandusky goes on his merry way.

I've already posted at least once, that I hope I would break it up and take the kid aside from Sandusky. But once this becomes accepted behavior (tolerated by Paterno and the athletic department) is McQueary supposed to risk his livlihood to change not an instance, but AN ENTIRE CULTURE at PSU?  This at least deserves him being heard out--unlike Paterno and his bosses. They deserve jail.

Try and remember--when you SLAM me, that I did not rape anyone. TIA

I read a very compelling hypothetical on some blog the other night.  Did you know McQueary grew up next door to Sandusky and was friends with Sandusky's sons?  What if McQueary was also a victim and experienced a PTSD moment when he saw the shower scene?  What if that is why he called his daddy instead of the cops?  I would imagine he'd be ashamed for people to know he'd been sexually molested by a man even though he had done nothing to deserve it.  Anyway, that really made sense to me.  Sometimes you are too close to a situation and it affects your judgment and reaction greatly.  They also said McQueary was known for bravery after having broken up a knife fight in a dorm...yet he wouldn't stop an unarmed man raping a child...that doesn't seem to fit together, does it?

Yeah, we're entering the 'wild-speculation' stage of this story.  Anything seems possible.  It's just too much crap to think about right now.

BTW, I heard on ESPN that someone threw a concrete block through Sandusky's window.  Ugly, disgusting, and sad.  Sad

This story says MANY things about Penn State, mostly bad if you read clsoely.

To the outside world, it can be hard to understand the raw emotions playing out in State College this week. The national media, especially ESPN, has at times expressed outrage at the reaction of students and fans to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

But in a town built by Penn State, where every facet of life involves the university, the world is not as black-and-white as it seems from a thousand miles away

This is the part that gets me.

Fueled by the university’s intellectuals, the town is a progressive anomaly in a conservative heartland, where the borough council is more apt to debate First Amendment rights than taxes.

And this.

Those basic tenants of life have also bred a sense of arrogance within the town, which — consciously or not — looks down its nose at nearby Altoona, Lock Haven, Williamsport and Lewistown.

Yeah, they're so much better than those uneducated factory-working, filthy coal miner types and anyone else who is not as blessed as a someone who has attended PSU.

Yeah, I made a post on that yesterday, but my comment was, he was lucky it wasn't a molotov cocktail.

Sorry to post it again.  I'm surprised that nobody has burned his house ( now that you mention it).  I hope they don't, but this mess is far from done.  Hopefully the riots are done, though.

I still think something else BIG will happen in this case. I'm sticking to all those predictions I made a couple of days ago. Plus, I think Paterno is more involved in this than anyone thinks.

I agree with you MD.  There is a lot more to this case than what has been reported so far.  You don't cover something like that up for a decade without there being a lot more to the story.

The latest timeline has this going back to at least 1995, when Sandusky was caught but nothing happened.

This story is somewhat spooky. Everyone knew each other, almost like in-breeding a a giant level. All those jokes we make about Tennessee pale in comparison to the situation at Penn State. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was part of the problem & the cover up/ignoring the problem. Amazing.

And McQueary, a former quarterback for the team, is in such a different position. He grew up roughly a mile from Penn State football games. He went to State College High and was a teammate with Sandusky’s son.

You have to factor in the culture he grew up in. If you look at Penn State as the Catholic Church, and Paterno as the pope, and Sandusky as a cardinal, then what was McQueary — a graduate assistant on the football team at the time — supposed to do?

There will be dozens of books and maybe some movies following this for years and years. Information on this scandal will trickle out for decades.

Already a SI writer, Joe Posnanski, living in State College and doing a book  about Paterno this very moment.
