Hate it IF he goes but we needed a new coach in the worst way. Always changes when a coach is fired.

I wonder why he is wanting to transfer? You think he is afraid he will have to work to earn his job with the new coach. RTR!

He's the guy who said it was hard to get motivated to play in the NIT.   :eyeroll:

I think some guys are just burned by what happened with the team & CAJ; the way the season played out. Some just want a change whether for the right reasons or not.  Our new BB coach is going to have his hands full turning this around.

Gottfried inherited a mess from Hobbs, took the program to heights unseen, then left a mess for Grant. Grant showed some early promise then left a mess for Johnson. Johnson showed some early promise and has left a mess for whoever is next. Hopefully whoever is next can break the cycle.

All that said, transferring is part of major college sports now, and that’s not going to change anytime soon unless the rules change. Most of the kids don’t have any loyalty to the schools they commit to beyond what the school can do to help them get paid at the next level. I can’t really blame for doing what they think is best for themselves, but it saddens me to see a generation that runs from adversity instead of learning from it and growing through it.

Rumors are that Petty may follow suit today.

But maybe an elite coach will be willing to risk his career and come to Bama.

They've all entered the "transfer portal" so that they can have contact with other coaches.  They can still return, and I expect some may depending on our coaching hire.

 :popcorn2:

There’s no doubt the players have learned from their elders - especially the coaches who jump at the first opportunity to move up, leaving the kids they recruited behind. I don’t really blame the kids. It’s time for us to give up on the idea that the players who come here feel any sense of loyalty to the University. We can bemoan the lack commitment all we want, but it’s not changing.

We can also give up on the idea of an established, elite coach coming here. Our best hope is a young coach who will build something lasting. Gottfried was heading in the right direction and then got tired or distracted or who knows what. Whoever we get needs to have the ability to control a team. None of Gottfried, Grant, and Johnson has had that.

I say if they don't want to be here, don't let the door hit you in the a@@ on the way out.  I want players who want to compete.

I agree to a point. Petty says he’s leaving no matter who the new coach is. I think he may be upset that after 2 years he has regressed with no real development, thanks to CAJ. Giddens (The Statue) needs to go to a smaller program like UAH, Lewis is getting interest from Tennessee & Duke. I think the players are finished waiting on Bama basketball to get its act together, like us. Can’t really blame them.

We need a TOP TIER coach and we need him fast. We need to have the money and talent to wijn at BB just like football. RTR!

Isn't Lewis the one that said it was hard to get up for the NIT game because of the small crowd?  Competitors don't need a crowd to get them up.  At least they should check with the new coach and listen to him, then if they don't like it transfer.  What are they going to do in life if they get a job from one boss and then that boss leaves or is fired?

I don’t think CAJ leaving is the main problem. It’s starting all over again with an unproven coach in a major conference and the failure of CAJ as a coach. If I had a son who had Duke looking at him, I would say go for it.

Petty withdrew his name from the Portal. We need Lewis to do the same thing. Ingram and Giddens can go.

IMO good news on Petty.

Agreed. Petty has a huge upside but needs development and a more uptempo pace in playing. I worry about Lewis if UT & Duke are talking to him.

Coach Oats talks to him we will see how good of a salesman he is. It sounds like and uptempo game. RTR!

Kira Lewis is staying!

Quote
“After carefully weighing all my options and discussing and praying about this important decision with my parents, I have officially decided to remain at the University of Alabama,” Lewis wrote on Twitter.

I thought he was gone. I imagine it took all of Coach Oates recruiting skills to get him to return. This solves our starting point guard issue.

Me too, at least 70% gone.  Figured he'd get some attractive 'offers'.  Maybe that didn't happen to the extent he expected.  But also, CNO did a good job convincing him to stay.

If CNO can get another big recruiting win in the late signing period, then the BB program will be trending up.

Just hope we all won't be disappointed again.

Let's not put this man or the team on a big pedestal. They are still human with a job to learn. Then we will be great again. RTR!
