USCw does have a good history of running backs and, to my knowledge, OJ is the only one that has killed someone.

Well, to be fair, none of their RBs have ever been convicted of murder.  Grin

Wow, SC, you have good ideas.  This old gray insulation isn't the fluffy stuff that you get blown in these days; it's a bit heavy.  It can't be blown easily, and comes up in clumps when vacuumed.  Plus it has rat droppings, and plenty of dust.  I wouldn't want to stir it up any more than needed.  Add the 125-degree heat up there today and you see the problem.

I don't think it can be shoveled.  There are old wires and all sorts of scraps beneath the insulation, ductwork, even an old chimney we found (which explained the sag in the living-room ceiling).  It's a mess.

I read about it some.  Companies have truck-mounted vacuum machines to remove it (huge shop vacs, I guess).  I think the next step is to see if the guys who will blow in the insulation will suck it out (as you suggested with the reversal).  How much could that cost??  Most web sites say leave it in pacle, but it's smelly and nasty.  It'd be good to be rid of it.

I am at a Division II school, and from what I have heard from those faculty on the Athletic Committee, is that yes, the NCAA is finally serious. Now all this is second hand so take it with a grain of salt. I thought of serving on committee but they are expected to attend all home games, and I will be danged if I miss a Bama game for a Division II game.

Several years ago I was asked to served on an athletic committee at an SEC school Wink ).  I enjoyed the information about compliance issues and hearing "inside info" about the players, got free tickets to attend events, heard much about the NCAA investigations, ate a lot of free lunches, met all of the coaches regularly, and had fun, but soon found the committee had little power to accomplish any change in the programs.  The coaches handle the fun stuff themselves, and the lawyers handle the problems.  Division II must be similar.

The shop vac would probably work if it had a much bigger canister to collect it in.  I wonder if you could rig the shop vac top part with the motor onto a 55 gallon drum or something.  Or, if you are going to haul it off in a pickup truck, use duck tape to seal the bed at the tailgate corners on the inside.  Then get some cardboard or scrap plywood or something to lay over the top of the bed and seal that off.  Cut out a hole in the plywood to sit the shop vac top part down into, and seal it off with more duck tape.  Then if you can borrow all of your friend's shop vac hoses to make a really long one, you just might be able to suck it right into the pick up truck all in one step.

Just some thoughts.  This is basically the reverse setup from what they use to blow it in there in the first place.

Thanks, SC.

Problem is the shop vac depends on a vacuum in the canister.  We got a long hose (swimming-pool hose) that reached into the attic, but there seems to be no way to expand the size of the canister and keep the vacuum.  You might be right; a drum may work, but the top of the shop vac includes the mechanism, which must fit securely on something the same size (close for tape to work), and the air must go through the filter... (get the idea?).  We tried several options, but found that a small reduction in hose diameter affected the vacuum too.  I think a large canister wouldn't create a good vacuum.

Maybe I'll google.  I need sleep.

Spent the day on renovations of an old house that a friend of mine owns.  Recall the friend with the tornado damage?  Same guy, different house.  We've torn out all of the walls and ceiling, and now are rewiring and putting in new windows.  I'm tired.  Fun day, though.

Anybody know a good way to get rid of all the old insulation (blown-in ancient stuff) from the attic?  It's smelly and needs to go.  We need a giant vacuum.  The shop vac is WAY too small to handle such a job.  Ideas??

Excellent.  Great commitment.  Roll Tide.

So... what's the answer?
63579  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: USC in Trouble Again? on: July 18, 2011, 07:24:24 PM
"USC has suspended running back Marc Tyler from team activities, the season opener against Minnesota, and possibly more, for the latest in a series of alcohol-related incidents. Tyler made the mistake of giving an interview while sloshed last week, and now he’s paying the price."

They have alcohol in California?  Tsk tsk.

No, name on TS was (1) Im4CNS, then I got banned for a rude joke..then I came back as "belleviewman".  I don't post a lot, just when I think I might have something to add to the pot...I do hang around a lot to get the latest scoop.  I will say the "rackouts" were interesting...
they are so cute at that age.

I really liked the analysis HScoach always had..is he on this forum?

Gonna ask my brother, nephew, my 2 sons to get on board.

Ain't much for predictions, but...the season should be a doozie..the Tide could go all the way..we have the coaching and support staff..with some teamwork, leadership, few injuries, and some luck
and of course a solid settlement of the QB situation..we could have it all.

Oh, and BTW....the cow college can burn in hell!

Welcome Bamalum67.  I'm from your generation of Bama folks; also met the Bear and still have several autographs.  You can help me remember old players' names when they come up in threads.

Glad to have you here.

Shorty Price died of a heart attack at the end of that game.

Serious?

I could invent a special 3 point harvesting attachment.

Or you could work for the feds and bushog the illegal crops.

They'll have to pay her in pesos. I think California is all out of American money. "SLS" will have to change directions as far as who you target if you're in Northern California, like, oh I don't know, cultivating fields for growing marijuana? (Medicinal, of course).

Yep, go with your strengths.  They can make extra dinero by exporting to Jefferson.

Quote
"Alabama will dominate on defense," Phil Steele said. "I have them rated as the best defense in the country. They have 10 starters back. They've got my No. 1-rated linebacker group, No. 1-rated defensive back group and No. 4 defensive line. When your weakness is my fourth-ranked defensive line ... I don't think I've ever said that before."

Seems like old times...

2009?

1979.

I was 2.

Then, as you recall, we went into the season with a dominant defense and had just won the NC.  Then the preseason #1 team finished with a 24-9 victory over Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl* that capped a 12-0 season and a unanimous national championship.

*You, sir, were sucking your thumb.  I shared a bottle of JD with a girl named 'Sterling'.

I know her.

The next loss that team suffered was at home to mississippi state the next year.

I knew you'd remember.  Of course, you were 3 by then.

3-6 (what a crock).
