Today is the day of a so called "Super Moon" or "Extreme Moon" when the moon comes closet to the earth on its orbit. In the past, Super Moons have been associated with extreme weather events, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Since it is occurring close to the Japan earthquake is it just a coincidence?

Yes I think it is just coincidence. I have other thoughts about the problems in Japan. RTR!

Well I guess we will have to wait and see. This sounds kind of wild but tonight is the night! RTR!

I missed seeing it tonight.  Last month, the moon looked unusually large when it first came up, I guess it was almost to super moon status.

It just rose.

I dont want to get into any debate here, but there is not an affect on the earth from having a supermoon, other than the normal full moon increase in crime (due to more light people stay out more).

It was an hour ago here.  I'm outside Atlanta.

My point was you should still be able to see it.

Oh.

I went outside a few minutes ago.  It didn't look that much larger than normal.  But it was already at least 45 degrees above the horizon.

I was just saying it seemed bigger last night.  I am gonna go build a fire by the pond later and enjoy it a bit.
