When it pertains to hype, nothing's changed for Derrick Henry from this point last year to now. The five-star prospect set the national high school rushing record and promptly became an Alabama fan favorite because of some early-spring pictures that showed off his imposing height and size. A late-spring injury ultimately stalled his progress and his handle on the running back position -- beyond running the ball, of course -- needed work. That progress happened mostly behind the scenes, as Henry briefly emerged for an 80-yard touchdown run against Arkansas and picked up a few extra carries against Chattanooga.
His display of speed, athleticism and power in the Sugar Bowl, where he ran for 100 yards on eight carries and caught a 61-yard touchdown pass, promptly erased any of the doubts that lingered about his potential. If Henry can make that much progress in 15 bowl practices, how much will be on display by the time Alabama opens the season against West Virginia? Ideally, Alabama's backfield will be similar to what it was in 2012, when Yeldon and Eddie Lacy split carries down the middle and remained relatively healthy down the stretch. ...
