Quote
Releford, a 6-foot, 195-pound point guard from Kansas City, Mo., earned the honor after averaging 18.0 points, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in leading the Crimson Tide to the 2K Sports Classic championship with wins over Oregon State and Villanova last week. For his efforts, Releford was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the event.

In the semifinals against Oregon State, Releford connected on 6-of-10 field goals and recorded 14 points and five assists without a turnover, to lift the Crimson Tide to a 65-62 victory.

In the championship game against Villanova, Releford, making his first start of the season, went for a career-high 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor and an impressive 5-of-5 from three-point range in the 77-55 victory over the Wildcats.

No doubt Releford had a great tourney. This can be a special year for Bama if Releford gets some help in the scoring department.

RTR for T-Rele. But they all played hard and deserve recognition. It'll be the flavor-of-the-night club again this year. One night T-Rele will have the hot hand, the next will be T-Lace, the third may be R-Coop and L-Rand. Some nights two of them may light it up. Some nights (I hope not very many) the whole line-up won't be able to pour piss from a boot. But the one consistency we can look for each time on the floor,-- is maximum effort and tenacious "D". CAG can't pull a pure shooter out of his crimson hat, and your game watching season will go a lot more pleasant if you accept this fact early rather than later.

One thing CAG could pull out of his crimson hat is better performances down the road from Levi Randolph. He played well last week and seems to be gaining more and more confidence as time goes on. The potential is there. He seems to be willing to exert the effort. But if he can add 10 points to his Walt Frazier "D" he'll be on his way to stardom- and the extra lift this team could use to run with the big dawgs. One more thing about L-Rand that has been fun to watch-- in man-to-man he pesters his assignment until the guy wants to explode. Watch his man get frustrated into turnovers and silly fouls as Levi takes him out of his game.

I mostly agree with your comments. I tend to think we will shoot the ball better than you do. I think Lacey is a pure shooter. Even pure shooters have off nights and get in foul trouble so you can never count on just one guy. Like you point out we have several guys that can contribute.

Speaking of shooting we need to improve our free throw shooting. We shot 60% against Villanova and missed critical front ends of 1 & 1's against Oregon State. We will have nights when the outside shots don't fall. On those nights we have to attack the basket and draw fouls. That is a good offense if you hit the free throws.

We need more production from the big guys. I am not convienced Jacobs ankle is 100%. He looks tentative to me. Engstom and Gueye are defensive help but offer very little on the offensive end. We have to get points in the paint besides Releford driving.

We are off to a good start. I said before the season started that we should make a run to the Sweet 16. After 4 games I still think that is possible.
