RBR: Alabama By the Numbers: Penalties

Arcticle from RollBamaRoll about penalties. Alabama is the least penalized team in the SEC. That is good coaching and discipline.

It isn't overly suprising that Alabama was easily the least penalized team in the conference last season. Avoiding penalties is pretty high on Coach Saban's list of priorities. His playbook makes it abundantly clear: "Must eliminate all undisciplined penalties."

The Crimson Tide not only had fewer penalties than any other team (66) but also the least yards lost (490). To compare, Arkansas, the most penalized team in the conference had half as many more yellow flags thrown at them during the season for 340 yards more than the Crimson Tide lost.

You are correct, it does come form discipline...and when reading from left to right, it's the first thing that comes up!

I agree, the only ones I seen were legit was the movement on Carpenter most times. RTR!

Did Carpenter jump early or did everyone else move late? CEO's around the country look for guys like him,-- self starters. 

Anyway, I think you and I are on the same page, Preacher.  That most penalties against Bama are called just to make it look like the officiating is unbiased. If, after a game, the stats read "zero" penalties against the Tide, --the tin foil hat, conspiracy theory nut jobs would be out in full force. Therefore, the league has decided to call a few, just for appearances.

I concur. And the first to come to mind was the one against Will Lowery in the Arky game last year. The next would be the out of bounds penalty against Dre'.

Both excellent examples of anti-Bamite discrimination. Hate crimes that should deserve federal prosecutorial wrath.
