Title: NCAA College Basketball Changes Proposed
Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 15, 2015, 04:01:26 PM
I like it, I like it!!

After another season characterized by low scoring and slow pace of play, N.C.A.A. rule makers on Friday proposed that men’s basketball games switch to a 30-second shot clock from a 35-second one, have fewer timeouts and be officiated to encourage a less physical style of play.

Last season was low-scoring. The average of 67.74 points per team per game was the third lowest since 1952, according to the N.C.A.A. And it was also the first season in which teams averaged fewer than 65 possessions a game since at least 2002, according to the statistics site KenPom.com.

Ehhh .... I like the shot clock idea, but I am wary about the "physical play" aspects. That part smells of handcuffing defenses like the NFL has done.

Yea and the tit for tat fouls are going to get even worse. This means the Refs will be controlling who wins a game again. RTR!

Yeah, I was concerned what they meant by that. They did away with hand-checking which was a good idea, I just don't know what else they could do.

I like the 30 second clock. The NIT used a 30 second clock last year and we played better. Too much standing around and perimeter passing in the 35 second game.

Basketball should be a physical game in the paint. I don't think anything should change except they need to call fouls by the rule book and be consistent on both ends. The refs now dictate how the game will be played and it is not consistent from game to game or from one end of the floor to the other.

Agreed. The one that drives me nuts the most is the handchecking. I understand the need for calling such, but some refs will call it if a guy just lightly taps another.

I hate it when the SEC or NCAA mandates that a rule is a "point of emphasis". A player drives the lane and gets slapped across the arm by one guy and knocked completely off balance by the next guy and no foul is called but a harmless hand check is automatic. I don't like it either CB.

Well heck, we did our part milking down the 35 second clock with few results. If they took us out of those stats, it wouldn't look near as bad.
