Good list.  I saw 'em all play except Harry Gilmer.

You saw Dixie Howell in the 1930s?

First, let me said that Freddie Kitchens does not belong in this conversation. However, he earned my respect during his playing days. He took more hits than any Alabama QB I can remember and he never stayed down or left the game. He may not go down as an all time great but he was tough as nails.

You don't remember Brodie Croyle, he got the crap beat out of him his senior season.

Brodie did take a beating but he was not tough. The barn still talks about how he would fall down to avoid a hit. He also left the field several times after taking a hit and missed many games during his career. My point with Kitchens is he took those hits and shook them off and to my memory never missed even a play due to injury.

NO, never saw Dixie, he was well before my time.  He was not on the list I was referring to.
