Title: Danny Sheridan Told Finebaum That Saban......................
Post by: Marshal Dillon on December 30, 2011, 03:25:05 PM
Sheridan says his sources are saying Mack Brown may retire or be forced out at Texas. He says Texas is preparing an incredible offer for hiring Saban. He says Saban is the one and only candidate at this time. Sheridan says he thinks Brown will stay and not retire unless Texas makes some big offer for him to leave. I just don't see Saban moving. He will be 61 next year, he doesn't need the money, he has a kid attending Alabama, he's in total control of the Bama program, his lake house is in Georgia and his system is running at full force here.

He isn't going to Texas.

Did Sheridan mention a Bag Man being involved? :dunno:

Sheridan's stock is going down. His nonsense on the Finebaum show is making him look stupid, like he is just making stuff up. In years past he was a good source of information but not anymore.

Finebaum says Sheridan is an outstanding source who has numerous sources throughout the country. If Finebaum vouches for him, that's good enough for me.

DS in doing nothing but trying to start some crap. He IS and HAS  been losing credibility since that "bagman" incident.
I would like to know what he has prognosticated correctly lately. Basically nothing that I can recall.
He should  :-X

How did he lose credibility with the bagman story? He said he knew who it was but the bagman would not let him reveal his name. That's how 90% of ALL sources operate in the media today. Are you one of those who is mad since he would not violate a trust and reveal the bagman? Now, that would have been great for his credibility and he would never have gotten another source to reveal anything to him.

Danny Sheridan has become a joke. Don't confuse him with a respectable journalist.

Well, Finebaum is a highly respected journalist and he says Sheridan has impeccable sources. Again, are you one of those that was demanding he reveal the name of the bagman and violate a promise he made to the source? Some of those saying Sheridan has no credibility are irate he wouldn't name names and get Auburn in trouble. Just saying.

Texas can offer, but would Saban really even consider it?  It's not like Saban has difficulty recruiting here.  He's loved by the fan base and gets whatever he wants from the University (Anthony Grant as Basketball coach for example).

Even Finebaum gives Sheridan hell about some of his recent comments. Sheridan does not have to reveal his sources if he is not comfortable with it. But that takes us back to Merks comment "I would like to know what he has prognosticated correctly lately. Basically nothing that I can recall.". If you run your mouth like Sheridan has this year something needs to be confirmed as true sooner or later. He has lost all credibility in my book.

As I recall, he spoke of the "bagman" incident on the FB show July 29th. He indicated that the NCAA had a source that had information to cause the Barn to lose it's NC, forfeit its 2010 season, etc...  Apparently, NCAA did an exhaustive investigation and found nothing. The guy really put his reputation on the line and to date, has come up empty.

No offense to you, Marshall. I just don't trust the guy.

I'm pretty sure I saw a blurb the other day about a contract extension for Mack Brown or something.  They said it was to put to rest all the rumors about him retiring.  I specifically recall a comment about "consistency and stability" being the most important thing at Texas right now.

Assuming I didn't just dream that up, I don't see them hiring somebody else right now if they just gave him an extension within the last week.

Here is the article I saw.  It looks like they haven't done the extension yet but are talking about it.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7392158/report-texas-longhorns-plan-extend-coach-mack-brown-contract

Quote
Dodds told the American-Stateman he hopes Brown's multiyear extension will quash the rumors that have Brown retiring or being forced out at the end of the season.

"I'm just tired of all the conversations," Dodds said. "Continuity is of the essence. It's more about stability than anything else."

^^ This. It was all over the news Tuesday or Wednesday. DS has absolutely no cred. at all. It's almost like he is grabbing at straws to keep his name in the limelight. The next change CNS will ever make is when he retires.

My thought exactly. With all the newer analysts out there that are getting more face time, I think DS is having to come up with "breaking news" just so he can try to stay relevant. He gets his 15 minutes, and when it comes out untrue, he fades back until he can concoct something else. Texas may CONSIDER contacting CNS, but I would be absolutely beyond shocked if CNS even LISTENED to the offer.

While I don't believe Mack is leaving Tejas, and I da#@ well don't believe Saban would go there. The contract extension has nothing to do with it. Remember we gave Shula a raise before we fired his ass.
A vote of confidence is like a kiss of death.

Yes, but wasn't that right after the 10-2 season?  We didn't fire him until after the next season when we went backwards, almost a year later.

Bingo! I have heard rumors about an extension for Brown, but it doesn't make sense. He has had two poor years in a row, why would that deserve an extension?

Seems I remember his contract having a clause to assure he is always paid in the top 2 or maybe 3.

Lol. Some awburn fans are all over this as well as they see Coach heading to Penn State also. I luv it cause they're eating it up hoping Saban is gone. Reality check (for me).  Saban learned from the Miami fiasco what his priorities were. He will retire the sidelines in a few years from Tuscaloosa, and continue to help our youth, while enjoying the broadcasting booth/raising scholly money/fishing at the same time. JMO

What is lost in all these Saban depature posts is (a) that Bama has made Saban as much as Saban has made Bama, and (b) even if Saban does leave it will not change the fact that he was here and won (hopefully) two NCs. That is to say, Saban has enriched the tradition and legacy of Alabama football. Just as it was an honor for any coach to move into PBR's office, it will be an even greater honor to move in to the office of CPBB AND CNS. There is nothing anyone can do to change that. In short, Saban has made this an even more prestigious coaching post. We will have no trouble hiring an outstanding coach. In that respect, Saban
will be the proverbial "gift that keeps on giving".

I just don't see all of this happening. I think he retires to Lake Burton, and for the most part, stays there. He might make an occassional trip to T-Town, but I think when he is gone, he is gone. Good for him, he deserves it.

Uh oh. J, you know something we don't?  :-\

you forgot this :tinfoil:

I will be a little surprised if Saban leaves this year because of his daughter being a Bama student and because of B. Jones staying.  I think if Saban were leaving maybe Jimmy Sexton would have told his neighbors on the down low to give Barrett all the info he needed to make the life changing decision of staying for the last year or going pro.    Then again, this takes into account that they share my values and priorities instead of worshipping money.

IF Saban leaves I hope we can respect him for bringing our program back and not act all creepy-stalker-girl like LSU fans.
