Anyone who listened to the game, can you tell me why we almost got beat by such an incredibly poor team? Were we totally unprepared, lazy, poorly coached, or just did not care? This game really bugs me. I will be listening Friday when they play Oklahoma.

 Shaking computer

MD, if you look at our exhibition games over the past few years, there haven't been a lot of blowouts. We've had some tight, unimpressive games. Then when the season starts, the team seems to show up. I wouldn't be too concerned yet. Remember, there are some young'uns on the team that just need experience, and I'm sure the regulars just thought they had to show up to win, last night.

Let's see what happens against Oklahoma.

The game was not on TV or radio. I followed the game on Gametracker. You get stats only but you can see substitution patterns and pick up a few things.

CAG was playing a lot of different players in different combinations. For example Dakota Slaughter played 10 minutes when the game was tight or Bama behind. That will not happen during the season. We played the starters and top two reserves down the stretch and in OT. We played much better. WG stayed in the game late by hitting 3 pointers they had missed all night.

Jamos will have to help here because he was at the game. Based on Gametracker stats I think WG was a run and gun team that put the shot up from anywhere. I think they got a lot of long rebounds. I think that is how they got 22 off rebs and how they took 104 shots. We had 16 blocks to their 2 so I don't think they did much damage down low. I am assuming a lot here not having seen or heard the game.

I agree with 2 that we should not read too much into a poor showing at an exhibition game. Friday against Oklahoma is a different matter. A poor
performance against them will be reason to be concerned.

WG was a team very similar to UAH who Bama had played the last 2-3 years at this time. UAH was a well coached team with good athletes and should have beat Bama a couple of those games. I think WG came into this game as if the were playing for a NC and played their hearts out. Bama on the other hand did waht you said, they mixed and matched the lineup looking for some chemistry from all of the new players. WG would swarm the boards on both ends of the court where as Bama was more concerned with getting back on defense when they shot the ball. AS I stated on an earlier post, Bama does not block out well on the defensive boards and wasn't that aggressive on loose balls, especially the long rebounds.

It was a typical scrimmage type game for Bama where they were looking for players who can be used on the starting 7 and I think if you look back at the last 7-10 minutes of the game you saw those players.

I was dissappointed because I was looking for more than CAG wanted to show. He was looking for players that can give him some good minutes in the games ahead and I was looking for a blowout.
