Title: Help with my cookies
Post by: ricky023 on August 15, 2012, 09:27:17 PM
My computer has been hanging up so a friend told me to got the run box and type in "temp" and I did. I got some of the cookies out of there, I didn't know if they all needed to go or not. Then he said there was a another place I needed to type in and go there for my cookies and it was not Internet Options.
He got away after church and I missed him. So I was wondering if anybody could send me a way to get those deep cookies off so my computer will work? Thanks already. RTR!

I don't think cookies will cause your computer to hang.  Do you have a virus scanner installed?

Yes SC I have a Microsoft Essentials on here. I ran a full scan and it showed no virus. You know I am a novice. I am not sure what is going on, the man who said he would help me has not shown yet, so I am trying to stop this thing from hanging up when I try to get on it. I hope that explains it. RTR!

I'll be honest bro. ricky. When I saw the title of this thread, I thought you had burned a batch of chocolate chip and needed some advice.

What happens when it hangs?  Does your whole computer lock up and you have to turn it off and then turn it back on?

I don't think that is a cookie issue.  It is probably a hardware problem.  How old is the computer?  A lot of computers will do that when they overheat.  It could be something as simple as the fan on the inside going out.  Another pretty common thing that will cause that is a bad power supply.

It is a Dell intel and I bought it in 2004. I hope I can save this thing, it has all my Seminary work and studies on it. So naturally I use it for all my studies. RTR!

My daughter's first grade teacher had a similar Dell that I repaired a couple of years ago.  I bought an identical one off e-bay pretty cheap to use for parts.  I had to replace the motherboard on that one.  As far as I know it has worked fine ever since, about 2 years now.

It could be several different things.  Do you know the model number of it?

No I don't should I just go ahead and take it to someone and let them fix? Thanks so much for your help. RTR!

I think you will need someone to look at it for you.  It would probably be much cheaper to buy another one just like it off e-bay than to pay someone to repair it.  You can usually find tons of old Dells that work just fine.  Lots of businesses use them, and when they upgrade to new machines someone will come along and buy all the old ones and sell them on e-bay.  You should be able to transfer all of your files pretty easily.  If I lived a little closer I would come down and fix it for you.  I've probably got enough spare parts sitting around to replace whatever is bad.

As long as the hard drive is OK you shouldn't lose any of your information.
