Butch Jones moved from offensive analyst to "Special Assistant to the Head Coach."  I have no clue what that entails.

I would like to know just what Butch does that is worth the $$$ he is being paid.  Like Hanny, I have no idea what he does.

Butch Jones is being paid $35,000/yr from Alabama. It represents just a fraction of the income Jones brings in. His firing from Tennessee came with a buyout of $8.2 million. ... Since any new pay mitigates the buyout, that $35,000 from Alabama will subtract only minimally from the obligation Tennessee has to Jones through February 2021.

CNS must like Jones. Jones accepted an on field coaching position with Mike Locksley when he went to Maryland but CNS talked him into staying at Bama. This is his last year making $35K at Bama, due to UT buyout coming to and end, so look for him to move on after this year or move to an on field coaching position which will pay more.
Thanks for the info. It sounds like Saban is keeping Jones in his back pocket, maybe as a future offensive coach, or OC in waiting, which means Saban doesn't expect Sark to hang around after this year.

Barners gonna barn.
Barners don't recruit the brightest players.  These Barners probably thought they'd make a mint smuggling West Coast marijuana into Louisiana for Mardi Gras.

Rule number one in drug trafficking:  Never, ever drive through South and West Texas.  The roads are filled with Texas rangers looking to halt drug smuggling into the U.S. from Mexico.  I once got stopped there myself -- the officer said he pulled me over because "he didn't know who I was" -- I was driving a vehicle not endemic to West Texas -- but he just glanced at my Texas license and let me go, admitting he was looking for drug smugglers.

A man walks out to the street and catches a taxi passing by. He gets into the taxi, and the cabbie says, -"Perfect timing. You're just like Frank."

Passenger: "Who?"

Cabbie: "Frank Feldman... he's a guy who did everything right all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happened like that to Frank Feldman every single time."

Passenger: "There are always a few clouds over everybody."

Cabbie: "Not Frank Feldman. He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand-Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone, and danced like a Broadway star. And you should have heard him play the piano! He was an amazing guy."

Passenger: "Sounds like he was somebody really special."

Cabbie: "Oh hell, there's more! He had a memory like a computer. He remembered everybody's birthday. He knew all about wine, which foods to order, and which fork to eat it with. And he could fix anything---. Not like me - I change a fuse, and the whole street blacks out. But Frank Feldman, he could do everything right."

Passenger: "Wow, some guy then."

Cabbie: "He always knew the quickest way to go in traffic and avoid traffic jams. Not like me, I always seem to get stuck in them. But Frank, he never made mistakes, and he really knew how to treat a woman and make her feel good. He would never argue back, even if she was in the wrong; and his clothing was always immaculate, shoes highly polished, too. He was the perfect man! I never knew him to make a mistake! No one could ever measure up to Frank Feldman."

Passenger:"An amazing fellow. How did you meet him?

Cabbie: "Well... I never actually met Frank.

He died … and I married his wife."

Don't know where this HC talk is coming from.  Guy is making $40k watching film and going to meetings.  He's about 1,000 steps from HC [at Bama].

Right!?   Huh?  (FIFY)

Maybe someone thought the mention of Saban's HC rehab course meant Strong would up for the Bama job, when all it really meant was Strong was hoping eventually to be successful as a HC somewhere.    Laughing

"So to recap I see the quarterback battle of 2020 at the Capstone, Jones starts the season, Taulia gives the transfer portal a hard look, Bryce Young could be the starter at some point of 2020, Jones returns to being the capable backup and Tyson becomes the insurance policy."

I feel like that's roughly the opinion of any average fan.
Sounds about right, although I don't see Saban switching to Young unless "Average Jones" really starts messing up.  Kinda like he didn't pull out Tua until the Natty.

Another former head coach is joining Nick Saban’s coaching staff at Alabama.

After spending the latter part of last week in Tuscaloosa, former Louisville, Texas and South Florida head coach Charlie Strong has agreed to join the Crimson Tide as a defensive analyst, according to Chris Low of ESPN. BamaOnLine reported last week this move was expected.

Best idea I've heard is ...

1.  allowing player to transfer and play immediately (once) to a school ranked lower than his (in previous year final rankings),

2.  sit out a year if he transfers to a higher-ranking school.

3.  After one transfer, he must sit out a year for second one.

MAY NOT HELP BAMA, BUT MOST FAIR.  IT WOULD SLOW THE SHOPPING BY QBs.

I don't know what rankings have to do with it.   Huh?

One problem with transfers is top schools stockpiling talent developed elsewhere.  This would help stop that.
I don't see that as a "problem."   Smiley

And from what I've seen, most transfers are seeking more playing time, not to be "stockpiled."  So I'd expect the numbers to reflect that, with more players transferring to lower ranked schools, rather than higher ranked.

Plus, where do you draw the line, what is the distinction if they transfer from #64 to # 61, instead of the other way around?

The lawyer in me says this is unworkable.  Wink
