I hadn't seen this posted here yet.  Former UA president Andrew Sorenson died unexpectedly today.
1082  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: NCAA Gymnastics Finals on: April 16, 2011, 05:49:56 PM
Roll Tide!  According to something I saw on the official NCAA Gymnastics website yesterday, I thought the finals had just started about 45 minutes ago.   Sad  Oh, well, I'm still glad we got another NC!   Applause E-Cred

There's already an article up if y'all would like to have the highlights.

1084  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 07:59:54 PM
The finals tomorrow evening will be us, Nebraska, Utah, Oklahoma, Michigan, and UCLA.  I believe the meet begins at 5:00 PM CDT.
1085  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 07:46:51 PM
Place Team                         Score
1      University of Alabama    197.050
2      University of Nebraska   196.850
3      University of Utah         196.200
4      University of Florida       196.125
5      Oregon State University 196.100
6      Kent State University    195.000

It looks like 3 of our gymnasts placed in the top 3 of the all-around.  We had the only 197+ score in either of the two sessions today.  The finals are tomorrow evening.  Roll Tide!!!
1086  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 07:42:51 PM
We've won!  Roll Tide!  I'll try to get the final scores posted as soon as everybody's finished.
1087  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 07:22:07 PM
Place Team                         Score
1      University of Utah         196.200
2      Oregon State University 196.100
3      University of Alabama    148.100
4      University of Nebraska   147.575
5      University of Florida      146.825
6      Kent State University    146.000

These are the current standings.  Utah and Oregon State are done.  OSU probably knocked themselves out of third place with their performance on beam.  Florida has clawed their way back into this and has a shot at overtaking Utah for third.
1088  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 07:16:01 PM
Our ladies pulled out a 49.350 on the bars.  Way to rebound!  As long as we don't have any major mistakes on beam, we should easily cruise into the finals tomorrow.
1089  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 07:12:47 PM
I'm not sure what happened, but we had an 8.200 score on the bars.  As long as we don't have another fall on bars, i.e., the catastrophe that I referred to earlier, then we should be fine.
1090  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 06:59:12 PM
At the end of 3 events for 4 of the six teams:

 Place  Team                         Score
 1       University of Nebraska   147.575
 2       Oregon State University 147.450
 3       University of Utah         146.925
 4       University of Florida       146.825
 5       University of Alabama     98.750
 6       Kent State University     97.050

There will be more of an apples-to-apples comparison after we all get done with the third event, but it looks like we and Nebraska will be fighting for first place, with Oregon State in third unless one of those 3 schools has a catastrophe.
1091  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 06:24:34 PM
We're doing quite well.  Everyone is done with their second rotation.  Right now, it's Nebraska, then us, then everybody else (who are fighting for 3rd place right now).

Session Place Team                          Score
2         1       University of Nebraska   98.800
2         2       University of Alabama    98.750
2         3       Oregon State University 98.050
2         4       University of Utah         97.800
2         5       University of Florida       97.575
2         6       Kent State University     97.050

1092  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: ***NCAA Gymnastics Championships Semifinal In-Game Thread*** on: April 15, 2011, 05:50:25 PM
Florida had a 48.125 on beam in their first rotation.  Barring some really weird things happening, that might very well knock Florida out of advancing.

Here's another interesting article:

Rolling on the floor lauging at the first line: "Another day, another NCAA investigation of Auburn."
1094  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Breaking On Finebaum... on: April 14, 2011, 04:03:41 PM
I have to think this really is part of a larger investigation.  Even if you take out all the other issues floating around with Cam, HBO 4, Ramsey talking to the NCAA, there would be no reason to investigate Tiger Prowl on its own, would there?

The sum of the parts.....well, you know.

I think this is exactly right.  The Auburn Senior Associate Athletics Director said, "The NCAA is not reviewing Tiger Prowl as individual violations. They are reviewing the entire event as a whole."   The "entire event is interesting terminology.  Could it be that the NCAA is building a case for a pattern of behavior, lack of institutional control, etc.?  The Tiger Prowl and its (supposed) minor violations may be just one piece of a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle that the NCAA is working on (Cam, HBO4, P4P, etc.).
1095  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: NCAA Gymnastics Regional on: April 02, 2011, 09:13:00 PM
RTR.  Are the rotating gymnasts competing for something?

Yes, they can qualify for the NCAA championships as an all-arounder or on the individual events.

I think it's the top two scores of gymnasts not on teams that qualify for the championships.

Okay.  Thanks for the info.  It didn't look like there were too many stellar scores from the rotating gymnasts at our meet.
