Now I wish we did a competition for the NIT like we did for the NCAA.  That way I could pick Bama as Champions.

Bama has a pretty tough bracket, with Stanford and Maryland.

Stanford has a big guy who averages over 15 ppg.  Hope we can guard him.

Maryland beat Duke twice this year, at home and in the ACC Tournament.

Kentucky has their hands full tonight with Robert Morris.  KY is down by one at halftime, and early in the game RM had a double digit lead.  They are playing at Robert Morris, instead of KY, because Rupp Arena is being used for NCAA Tournament play.  Calipari grew up in this neighborhood.  It doesn't seem that KY players want to be there.

Northeastern takes advantage of our stone cold play with a 16-4 run to end the half. Bama up 28-23 at the half.

Randolph taking over the baseline with a couple of dunks. That fired 'em up.

Reggie Spencer on Northeastern is listed from Tuscaloosa. What a thrill for him.

probably the thrill of his life to play against the Tide in Coleman.  He outplayed our guys. JMHO
Jacobs only got 16 minutes from foul trouble plus I think CAG was giving 9'GB  PT while we were up each time.  ???

It was interesting watching the game on ESPN because Bob Knight gave better commentary than your typical yahoos.  He seemed particularly interested in the frontcourt.  He complimented Gueye for providing some space for the guards to drive to the basket when Bama was on offense, but also pointed out a positioning error where Gueye should have had his foot next to the base line so the opponent couldn't drive to the basket, and he also pointed out one or two of Gueye's meaningless fouls.  He liked Jacobs play for the most part, especially when Jacobs took the charge on D, and he liked Jacobs' offensive play.  Overall, Bob Knight was complimentary of Bama's frontcourt.

Not much to say about this game. It was a game we were suposed to min and we did. It is tournament time... survive and advance.

We played well except for an 8 minute stretch to end the first half. It was not our usual throw up a bunch of bad misses. We hardly got a shot off during that stretch. We had a lane violation, two charges and several turnovers. We were our own enemy at that time. NE came out and closed to one point at the beginning of the second half. That pizzed us off and we went on a 22 point run. Game over at that point.

NE was outmanned in this game. We had the size advantage at every position for maybe the first game all year.

Disappointed at the size of the crowd. Hard to sell tickets for a Tuesday night game when you do not know if there will be a game or not until 9:00pm Sunday night. Hopefully the next round will be better.

Stanford beat Stephen F. Austin 58-57. We play them at home Saturday 11:00am.

For all of you Carl Engstrom fans, he walks and moves around with no limp or restraint whatsoever. Hopefully this will permit him to have a full offseason working on his skills for next year.

Good to hear. I hope he works hard on his offense this offseason. He is already a good defensive player.

I have heard he is eligible and will apply for a medical redshirt after the season is complete. If awarded he will have two years remaining to play.

Now this is good news. I would love to see him in this tourney but I would not take any chances of reinjury for sure. RTR!

If MG can develop any offensive game he could be ok.  He does move well.  Has anyone notice when he sets the pick and rolls out many times no one goes with him?

That happened in SEC play.  I noticed Northeastern covering him pretty well, allowing other Bama players to drive the lane.  I guess they didn't get a scouting report.

I loved listening to Knight.  So much more interesting and insightful than most of the guys they have on there.

Yeah, that is because everybody knows there isn't even the slightest chance that we are going to pass the ball to him.  And if we do, it will bounce right off of him and go out of bounds.

I too am a fan of Bob Knight. I liked him when he coached at Indiana. He has always seemed to be a man of honor and truth. JMHO. RTR!

Alabama is the only SEC team left in the NIT.  Kentucky and Tennessee both got bounced in the first round.

Here's the current bracket:

I'll be pulling for an Alabama vs Mercer rematch game in the finals  ;)

Mercer beat UT 75-67. We can not say much they beat us this year too. They also beat us in the 08-09 season.

SEC teams should not lose to Mercer.

Especially when compared to Dickie V and Billy Packer.  :wall:

The ESPN announcers all seemed to be reading off the same set of note cards.  Each game they'd start off telling us how Steele is the backbone of the team. Then an obligatory comment on the devastation of losing Engstrom and a showering of praise for Lacey and his game winning shots. Then as Releford slices and dices the lane for 2, they'll say how he is the best in the country shooting off balance driving the lane.  They want to say something complimentary about Gueye's defensive prowess but invariably they'll be interrupted by his making a dumb foul or turnover.

I'm not sure of the exact mechanics of it but they seem to ALL be reading off the same cue cards or script.  No one has bothered to revise or update those notes as the season has progressed.

They assume no one is listening. It is the NIT after all.
