Florida State is ranked 3rd, despite being the only undefeated team.  The BCS formula always had an undefeated team among the top 2, assuming all others had a loss.

Question:
If The Committee were choosing just 2 teams for a playoff, would FSU be ranked 3rd?

I doubt it.  Just like the BCS ranking of Notre Dame during the 2012 season, they'd put FSU 1st or 2nd.

I think Ga Tech takes out the trash this Saturday so it won't matter...

I think in the BCS system FSU would be #1 and Bama or Oregon, probably Bama, would be #2.  I'm glad the committee isn't afraid to put an undefeated team with a weaker schedule and weaker performances behind one-loss teams with a tougher schedule and better performances.  Even if that team is the defending champion.

Glad they had the cohones to do that too, but they continue to reward teams' records pretty much evenly, regardless of the strength of schedule.  And no doubt they'll end up with a representative from 4 different conferences, even if FSU loses to GT.

BTW, GT lost their top player (WR) to injury.

After all is said & done next Sunday, it will be interesting to see how different the Committee's choices are vs. what would have been in the old BCS.  Would the same top 4 would have gotten in by either method, i.e. just the order of ranking is different?

As I have said in previous posts, I think this is about the time the committee members start to unconsciously become influenced not only by who is better than whom, but also by the specific seedings that would produce interesting match-ups. So, let's say FSU and OSU lose Saturday. TCU and Baylor both win. Would the committee put TCU and Baylor at #3 & #4, opening up the possibility of al all Big 12 final? Or would they find a way to make them 3&4 to prevent that?

You appear to be correct.  Ranking isn't as important as who you play and where you play (assuming a team makes the top 4).

I think that is why Florida State keeps getting moved down; not just because everyone is tired of them, but also to make interesting, regional matchups.

Alabama, Florida State would easily be top-2 teams with old BCS system
If there was only one unbeaten Power Five team remaining in the old BCS system, that team would undoubtedly enter this weekend's games in control of its own fate - and that system only had two spots to fill.

But in the old system we knew that winning and strength of schedule were highly valued, whereas the new CFP system appears to be more about the eye test....

Hmmm.
