Well If Im correct CBB never had a losing season Except Junction (anywhere he coached). Has Saban done that?

I think they are both the same drivien type people and thats what it takes to Coach the Crimson Tide, because the Fans, the AD, and the BOT all demand that you win!

And the pressure Saban puts on himself to win is more than any of us could put on him, Bryant was just a man that hated to lose more than he loved to win.
And he was a Winner!

Are the accomplishments of CNS more impressive than CBB?  If you look at it CB did not have the scholarship restrictions that the present day coach has to work under.  This is in no way saying CB was not a great coach.

I'M MAD!!!!! Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry BLASPHEMER!!!!!!!

Seriously though, that is a good question to think about. I don't know that CNS has been MORE impressive. Yeah, there were no scholly restrictions, but that was true for every school during CPB's time. Those players could have gone to any other school, but chose to accept an offer from the Tide and to play for the best coach in the country. Plus, as we all know, great in HS does not always translate to college. Great coaching was a necessity. Now, having said all that, what CNS has done in the past few years with all the restrictions the NZAA has now  is nothing short of remarkable. In the end, I think you just have to say that each did well in their particular eras with the regulations that were in pacle at each time.

Very good answer. I think the big difference between now and back then is the second and third tier schools being a little more competitive. All the major schools are still the major schools and coaching makes the difference. At Alabama we've had our fair share of great coaches, and we have one now.

\

Coach Bryant in 1954 at Texas A&M 1–9 his first season
the closest Coach Saban has been is 6-6 in 1996 & 1998 at Michigan State
but two years later Coach Bryant had A&M undefeated 9-0-1 and first in
the Conference
but in the pro's Coach Saban did have one 6-10 season in 2006
if we count pro games that is ...

When you look at the Bama program as a whole, not just CPB and CNS, you still get the same picture. Five coaches, Wade, Thomas, Bryant, Stallings, and Saban all won National Championships. All but Stallings have at least two. So CNS is continuing the Bama legacy. I agree with lstephen, until CNS's tenure is over you can't really compare him to CPB. CNS has 20 more years, 4 NCs and about 13 more SEC championships to go.

Why compare the two? It is such a wonderful feeling for me to know that both coached at Bama and both were very succesfull in making Bama's legacy in football what it is today. Roll Tide!!!

You're comparing apples to oranges.  CBB operated under the rules existing at the time, as did every other coach he competed against.  If anything, the ability of his competition to also stockpile talent would make it more difficult to have success annually, as teams would be more senior-heavy than they are today, and therefore any one player recruited was less relevant than it is today, where every player counts and freshmen see the field.

Really good points, no reason to compare.

Like trying to compare Bama's '92 to '11 defense.

Following college football can be stressful.  All of us suffered through disappointing seasons, and those of us old enough to remember can cite numerous examples.

I'm trying not to let this photo scare me. I keep repeating to myself "Coach Bryant came next, Coach Bryant came next ...."

I've had a thought swirling in my head about this photo.  Years ago, when I was a child, a teacher told me she'd made an observation during recess.  She said that she'd noticed that the fastest kids were the ones with smallest ears.

I've remembered it my whole life, and it seems true.  Sometimes kids with large ears aren't slow, but the fastest ones seem to have small ears.  Anybody?

Hey, it's the slow season for discussion...

But today we are riding the crest of the best of Alabama football.  Enjoy it while you can.  It's never been better during the past 40-50 years.

I don't know.  It was pretty dang special back when I was in college (61-65).
Three national championships in 5 years and rooked out of another(1966).

But I love it now too. Wink
