Title: Men's Hoops Back On Road To Take On Streaking Georgia
Post by: Jamos on February 11, 2013, 06:17:50 PM
The Alabama men's basketball team will play its fourth road game in its last six contests when it travels to Athens, Ga., to take on the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The match-up is set to tipoff at 8 p.m. CT (9 p.m. ET) and will be televised on ESPNU.

This will be a tough one to win and it would do a lot for Bama's tournament chances if they can pull it off. Georgia likes to play uptempo like Bama does so you never know, Bama might match up well with them.

This will be a difficult road game but a very important one. We find out tonight if we are an upper tier SEC team with NCAA Tournament hopes or a middle of the pack SEC team with a NIT bid.

UGA will present some problems in the paint. They have some size. Caldwell-Pope is a very good player.

If we play well we can win this game. We need to get some quality play from Gueye and Jacobs down low and the guards must hit their shots. I don't think 50 points wins this game.

Georgia is an average team that happens to have a little streak going at the moment. HTH

We need a CAG tomeout to settle them down before this turns into the Auburn game.

I have never understood basketball.  Randolph is just standing there with his hands up, and the UGA guy is bumping him and pushing him all over the place, and they call the foul and Randolph.  :dunno:

Stop with the math and enjoy the game. This is a mediocre UGA team.

Releford makes an insane drive and now we are tied at 15.  If they had just a little consistency on offense... their defense can handle anybody.

They'd be better on offense if they would quit giving that 9' goofball 20 minutes. HTH

Yeah. I said earlier in the season that if not given a chance to square up to the basket, Lacey can't hit diddly.

We have the lead 25-22 at the half.  I would say we have our 20+ half out of the way and still have the lead, but the last time I thought that we came back out with a 14 point 2nd half.

So we basically have a do-over from the Auburn game at this point.  Let's see how they handle the 2nd half this time.  That will say a lot about these guys.

That makes about 3 times now the 9 foot goofball has clobbered UGA without getting called, so I guess it evens out.

That 3 by Randolph was huge to take the lead back.  Now Cooper follows it up with another 3.

It just amazes me to see Bama winning these basketball games. CAG says he was proud of the team for their effort, I guess he's lowered his standards of good quality basketball and has come to accept whatever he sees on the court. I will say though that once the team got away from dribbling the ball around the perimeter and throwing the ball up with 2 seconds left on the shot clock, they actually scored some points.

It is frustrating to watch them play and you would think it would frustrate the players when they watch the film of the game. This is where you learn and make some changes for improvement but it's the same each game they play.

I'm not giving up on them but who knows, stranger things have happened in sports. Maybe this team is destined to find a way to the Big Dance, but it sure is ageing me much faster than what I would like as I  watch them play. Roll Tide!! ;)

A good road win. We sit at 8-3 and in a tie for second place.

Another low scoring physical game. The refs seem to be allowing more bumping, shoving and physical play than ever. I like when the refs let the players play and not call ticky-tac fouls. But we are at a point a ball handler enters the lane at his own risk. As long as you make it appear as a play for the ball you can slap arms and bump with shoulders/hips. At least the refs were consistant last night and called it the same on both ends. Unless you have five scorers on the floor and move the ball fast like Florida does the games are going to be low scoring.

We are somehow winning in spite of our post play. We got 6 points last night, all from Jacobs. Gueye got 5 rebounds and Jacobs one. Randolph had 7. UGA out rebounded us 41-33. Gueye did have 4 blocks.

We hit some big shots down the stretch. UGA made a final push and took a one point lead with 3 minutes to play and we responded well.

We kept the UGA fans out of the game. We never let UGA get on a run after the early minutes. UGA has to be disappointed in their crowd. It only holds 9,000 and it was half full. Of course the game started at 9:00 local time.

In the SEC any road win is a good win. I think we got back on the NCAA bubble last night. We need to keep winning.

USCe visits Tuscaloosa on Saturday at 4:00.

I am 6'-4"--- If allowed to camp under the defensive basket (too old to run the floor all night) for 20 minutes, I could catch 3 or 4 guys going up flat footed and block their shots. If Jacobs got Gueye's 20 minutes he'll get 3 or 4 rebounds more without the turnovers and personal fouls. C'mon! Both players are getting used defensively but there is at least the possibility that Jacobs will score. HTH

I think this is the difference between the Tide and the elite teams.  Bama can win a defensive game against a poor shooting team like Georgia, but put Florida's players on the court and, unless Florida is having a bad day, Bama gets blown out.  The pieces are there to score points for Bama, but the consistency is lacking, and CAG hasn't been able to find a fix.  If this team had an offense, it would be among the elite teams for sure.

Ole Miss lost again last night. They have lost 4 in a row. That drops them to 7-4. We are in a 2nd place tie with UK.

It is important to stay in the top 4. The bottom 4 play on Wednesday in the SEC Tournament. The Top 4 get a bye for the first two rounds and do not play until Friday.

It seems as we first thought our Basketball team was going down then they turn it around and go to winning like we expected. Does it take them this long to mesh and know each others' moves on the floor? If so, then we should be in for a special 2nd half of the season. RTR!

Yep, the SEC ranking is important, and with Bama's schedule there is no reason we shouldn't stay in the top 4.
