Title: Football Forum Wars
Post by: BAMAWV on November 11, 2011, 07:24:02 PM
It is getting close to bowl time. How about a contest between forums, ShaggyBevo, Tigerdrppings, barnsex, Nittany News, Buckeyeboard, etc. all invited to the CRS forum war. Each forum or board (maybe several for 1 school) allowed to enter their #1 poster at a certain time, say a Sunday afternoon. They sign on with their board name as their screen name. Say 5 general football topics are selected to post on. A private board they (the contestant) can post on, but the rest of their board can only can only watch (lurk).

5 topics-- "Who is the second best conference?"  or "Does the Pac 10 have any defense?". Every contestant--selected beforehand by their forum--maybe a vote--begin posting. 5 hour time limit.

We make up an invitation post--in essence--a letter explaining the contest and a link to this board (front page) for instructions and rules. Then 6-8 of us are assigned conferences to notify--sign up for board and then post our invitation in the form of a new thread.

I don't even know enough to realize how much work this will cause for SC. But the idea is solid. I would watch it.

I haven't figured out how to score or judge it--- matter of fact--all this is up for suggestions--

Another one would be gatorsports.com

Hit as many as possible. SC may have to lock our membership that day, IDK, but no one else is doing it. Perhaps start another site, sponsored by CRS, but I promise the competitive nature of these fan bases will draw some serious attention.

I like the idea of attracting more rival fans here, so long as they obey the rules and respect the other posters.  In short, people like us who happen to root for another school.  We all have friends like this in our daily lives.

However, I don't think you will find many like that at the rival boards mentioned above, at least the ones I am familiar with.  Also, the Forum Wars concept is bound to bring out the worst in the people who we do find.  My main concern is that we might disrupt the peace and tranquility (for the most part) that we all enjoy here.

Several months ago I registered a domain name that I thought I might use for a multi-team site if I could ever figure out a way to do it so it didn't destroy what we already have.  I'm still thinking about how to pull it off though.  It will require some custom programming on my part.  I have some ideas, but I want to be fairly certain that we can keep the site friendly and peaceful after the rival fans start showing up.  I actually already have some of the work done, but there is quite a bit more to do still.

I will probably go back to work on that once I finish the recruiting section, which is getting pretty close to being ready.  After that I might make some tweaks to the pickem stuff so that it handles basketball tournaments.  Then maybe in the early spring I can go back to work on the multi-team site and maybe try to have it ready for football season next year.

If anyone has any concerns about having a site with rival fans, please post them in here.  I want to make sure I have a strategy in place to handle all of the potential bad scenarios in case things start getting out of hand.  The last thing I want to do is destroy what we already have.  I would love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this.
