Yes, there are some playing in mid-season form and you probably know who they are. I made a statement to my friend that when you look over at the sidelines anymoe you don't see any bench warmers, they are all players now. I was impressed with both sides of the ball.

I thought he had improved since I saw him last but he should have. All he needs is lots of reps and he will be ok. It was a good battle between the offensive and defensive lines today, there was some heavy competition. I think the offense had a little making up to do since the last scrimmage.

That's the impression I got. I think they busted butt to rise to the occasion today. Good stuff, J.

I like what you said about "no bench warmers, only players."

It feeds directly into something I have thought about since reading Coach saying the team seems to have team chemistry and it is a whole new world when it comes to Red Shirting Freshmen.  I think we have 85 players who can play ( not counting injuries and such). That we can stick a freshman Guard in with a Sr. line and he cane play as part as that unit. Same with any player, relative to his position. CNS has taught these guys the true meaning of teamwork. And if they work for the greater good, it will pay dividends to each, as an individual.

J, how was the kicking game today? CNS mentioned that Cade Foster missed a couple of FG's today.

These players have the greatest mentor that they could possibly have as a head coach and there are some that realize this and are taken advantage of it. I do think that more players (non-starters) are better than in the past because they are buying into his plan.

Remember when CNS would get mad as H-E-Double tooth picks, when people would mention "depth chart." I think that this was his goal all along. To have 85 first string players. Some start before others, not because one is better than the other, but because of which formation is going to be run ( Nickel v/s dime on defense...etc). The team may not be there yet, but we may see it within the nest two years or so.
Before you all go and say I'm going way over board with this, think about this:

Take any member of the defense's first two teams. Now pretend you are an "O' coordinator with Bama coming up soon on your schedule. Tell me your first three plays.

Run against our our "D" line, along with Donta', Courtney and others?

Pass to the outside with Dre', Millner etc?

Pass to the middle / deep against Lester and Barron?

This is not even mentioning people like CJ Mosely or our DE's.

Most "O" coordinators will sleep like a baby before playing Bama. Which is to say they'll wake up every two ours crying and wetting the bed...

And that's not even mentioning the depth at "O" line, WR, rb, and yes especially QB!

And it's not just the size / talent that we have at each position, it's that Coach Saban has talked them into buying into the process. That each one knows the best way to make it to the NFL, is to bust your butt and do tings the right way. That the NFL still plays with teams, and needs team players.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

Sorry, even at my age I get a little carried away... Embarrassed

But, maybe besides someone with a lil more exp. at certain positions, can you name one first team or second team Bama players you would trade for one from another team?

A certain RB that we missed on 2 years ago who now runs behind a chicken mascot.  Trade a 2nd-team RB for him.
