Title: Alabama rookie rockets Tide past Oklahoma with 3-run blast in WCWS opener
Post by: Jamos on May 30, 2014, 05:45:02 AM
Again, Peyton Grantham.

The rookie hero struck again for Alabama just when the heavily pro-Oklahoma crowd at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium had momentum. The defending national champions had just taken a lead on a sloppy Alabama throw.

So Grantham fixed it.

Great win for the ladies.  Bama has 9(?) players who weren't there for the CWS in 2012, and they're stepping up big.

By the way, all three SEC teams, Bama, Florida and Kentucky, won their opening game yesterday.

This win was much bigger for the team than just the score. CPM seems to be a very conservative type coach by usually playing the upper classmen most of the time. Four freshmen and two sophomores have made the big difference in whether Bama goes to the WCWS this year. This has never happened at Bama before, usually the young ones have to wait their turns as the more experienced players seemed to get most of the playing time and the young ones only played in a mop up role or running the bases for the slower players when needed. I like what I have seen and I think what has happened this year will only make Bama a much better program in the years ahead. Old dogs can learn new tricks and I think CPM is one that has, he got past his old school mentality.

Great for the conference but I don't know if it is so good for the teams. :dunno:

Traina pitched a good game.  One HR in the 1st, and then one run on two errors.  She was confident and relaxed.  It's good to have a pitcher who's been there before; hopefully she continues to pitch strong.

I'm just playing the law of averages when the conference teams have already played each other during the regular season. Bama did not play Kentucky though and it should be a good game.
