Title: We have a kicker committed for next year.
Post by: bama87 on November 07, 2011, 01:48:33 PM
I have seen this kid kick. He can kick it out of the endzone. This is a football factory school. He can bomb it.

I posted a video of him in the "Recruiting" stickie. Check it out. But IDK how he tackles.

If he kicks it through the endzone, he won't need to tackle.

I truly hope we gear up our kicking game..LSU shows that even a very strong team with all facets of the game needs one.

Beats the heck outta me,...BAMA has always been known for a strong kicking game..except for the past 2-3 years.

I believe it was somrthing like ...

our kicker is bigger than any of au's linebackers and can kick the ball 80 yards

I watched his highlight video and really like the way he attacks the ball.  He finishes with his lef thru the ball. Also, I am not sure I saw him using a block on field goals.

Just filmed Ala commit Adam Griffith kick a 60 yd FG without a tee on first try. Good from 65+ easily.

Was there a Honey Badger or other carbohydrate-oriented critter approaching him during the kick?  Just asking...

  But true. That is the real test. Can he do it in an SEC game?

Look, competition breeds success. Good quality competition is always good. It will help both kickers. Right now we have a short kicker and a long kicker. We should have one guy do it all.

Unless I'm leaving someone out, that'll be 3 schollies tied up for that position. Also a lot of 'cruiting sweat and blood. It seems the very best FG/KO specialist in the Southeast/nation would pay to come to Bama to get his NFL audition.

I'm sorry but I'm not sold that Adam is the savior of our kicking game. Foster's HS highlight reel was much more impressive. If you watch Adam's video you'll see the kickoffs landing about 5 yds deep to a couple of yds past the end zone. Subtract 10 yds from that and you'll see Foster's highlight reel for this year.
Also, on the long FGs it seems like he's taking an extra step, maybe that's just my imagination. The best thing I like about this kid is his follow through. If you look at his shorter FGs he don't kick "just enough". He kicks strong and I like that.
Adam, just like any other recruit... :popcorn2:

I think the biggest need for the kicking program is for the kickers already there to just improve their game. All of them can kick, but their consistency of making them seems to be the problem. Some good coaching and mental therapy can do wonders. RTR!!  ;)

^^^ A back-up plan is good. But the new kicker will still have to go "head up" with Shelley and Foster,--and you know how that goes. I wouldn't expect production out of Griffith until 2013. Early enrollment would help.

Shelly wasn't offered a scholarship but was invited to walk on.  I don't know if he has a scholarship now, but he did not when he enrolled.

Point taken, we still need to bring in a new one every couple of years (punter too).

Here is a good link-- hot off the press:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/932032-alabama-football-will-adam-griffith-end-the-tides-kicking-woes

Rivals/bleacherreport but it has in depth look AND a poll to vote in.

Chris Sailor of Scout.Com says:
Quote
Adam may be the most talented kicker that I have ever seen. He has big time leg and hits an absolutely huge ball. His field goals come off his foot like a rocket. His kickoffs are tops in the nation. Adam hit one wind-aided kickoff 90 plus yards with 4.40 second hang time. No one can match his talent.

Shelly is not on scholarship but we have a scholarship tied up on back up punter Jay Williams from Thomasville. Williams is a redshirt freshman that has not seen the field yet.

What has happened to Jay Williams, I thought he was the second coming of Chris Mohr has not been on the field.

Kickers are nothing but a "mental case" that plays football, they walk with a different beat of the drum.  :)

Has anyone beside me looked at the technique of the Griffith kid vs Foster.  This is something I have mentioned in the past about his not following thru on his kick.  Look at the difference of CF technique in high school vs now.  Then look at the Griffith kid and how he extend and goes thru the footbal when he kicks.  CF does not even have the same kicking motion he did in high school.

With "all the film in the world" how are they missing this. He looks like he is stopping to pick up his tee, or while he's all bent over from not following through, he figures he may as well get the tee?

Well either way our kicking game has to improve. Whether it be with a new kicker or someone teaching the existing how to punt correctly. I punted in high school and if you can't keep that body forward when punting you are not going to get the height nor power through that kick. Cody lays back to much and CF or Shelley I'm not sure what the problem is, but we need help in a hurry. I wish one of the soccer player's would walk up and show CNS how kicking should be an art. RTR!
