Many of you know that I've been fighting cancer for a little over a year now and have supported me through Prayer and positive thoughts.  I've promised to keep you updated and doing it this way is easier than a bunch of PM's.  For those of you who don't know but may care if you did, I'll add a little background.

Last winter just before Thanksgiving I began Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments for Stage IV Laryngeal Cancer involving my vocal chords and thyroid cartiledge just below the voice box.  After 10 weekly doses the chemo drug Cisplatin and 35 radiation treatments (the last on 1/10/12) I hoped that I had won a victory as important to me as my beloved Crimson Tide had won the night before.

In March I had a PET Scan and found there was no sign of cancer in either the original site or elsewhere in my body.  In a subsequent PET Scan done in June the original site was still cancer free but a nodule was found on my thyroid gland and several small nodules were found in my lungs.  A CT Scan was performed in early July and confirmed the PET Scan findings.  In early August a needle biopsy was performed on the Thyroid nodule and it was Negative or benign and that was a great relief.  That relief was short lived though.  I had another CT Scan performed on Sept 12 and it indicated the nodules in my lungs had more than doubled in size in 3 months.  I had a needle biopsy performed on one of the nodules in my lungs that was the easiest to get to and it turns out that it was Positive for Cancer.  So I now have metastatic squamous cell carcinoma in my lungs.

Yesterday I began my next battle going through 5 hours of intraveinous injections with Carboplatin and Paclitaxel...two pretty nast drugs.  I'll be getting this treatment again in 3 weeks and again 3 weeks after that.  Then after a short wait I'll have another CT scan to find out if the treatments are effective or not.

During my first battle last winter I had to have all my teeth pulled and I lost about 20 pounds during treatment and another 26 pounds following treatment.  I've gained 4 or 5 lbs back now.    If these dang tests didn't keep telling me that I had a very serious disease I would tell you I was fine and that physically and mentally I have felt as good for the past 5 months as I can remember feeling in many years.  I'm hoping that will help get me through this next battle but the prognosis really isn't good.  Survival rates over 2 years are not good and over 5 years are rare....but the way I look at it rare means that survival isn't impossible and I am determined to dedicate myself to the PROCESS and win this next battle.

I know this was long and maybe it should have been posted somewhere else but we have never really defined what subject this thread should be limited to.  Since the interactions in this thread are what led me to register and begin posting on this site, I thought this would be as good a place to post and any.  and will probably get a lot of TLDR's but that's okay and I'll just LOL and love you as a crimson brother anyway.  For everyone else I can use all the prayer and positive thoughts I can get.

Thanks for the update Leroy. I have been wanting to know how you are doing but felt like you would tell us if you wanted us to know.

I will continue to pray for you. Believe it or not I really do pray for you and many other family and friends every day. Although we have never met I consider you a friend. I believe prayer works. You should too. Keep your head up, pray often, have faith in your doctors, keep a positive attitude and you can beat this thing.

I can say that all things are good and can be solved by allowing God to have charge of it. Tell the family I am with them also, cause I lost a daughter, dad, and mom to this stuff called cancer. I know God made your body with no mistakes and he has all the parts to heal it. We love you, and call upon God for this healing in Leroys' body to take place. Please keep us updated. Roll Tide Roll!

the worry and the cost of fighting this cancer is horrendous
those CT scans with contrast are costing me $750.00 ea. co-pay
but after they had us convinced the wife had cancer the second
CT scans showed otherwise  , thank you GOD !

so that was the best 1500.00 I've ever spent in reality
lots of Prayers and a better Doctor helped tremulously 
hope all goes well in your fight Sir , we WILL be Praying for you too ...

I hate this cancer , we are in a wait and see status for now
checks ups and Prayers and a negative test results are what
we Pray for daily  , so far so good , Thank you Jesus !
