I'm hearing he is taking about a 1/2 million per year pay cut over what he currently makes at Auburn.  Does this mean the barn is about to burn and he is getting out while he can?

Wow! Didn't he pass up 3mil from Vandy last year?

He did pass up a big offer from Vandy last year, but I don't remember how much it was.  This is very intriguing to me.  He has to know something is coming that we don't know about yet.

It was 3 million per year:  Click here for link

Auburn has no QB, maybe no Dyer, and no real expectations for next year. He knew his stock was dropping and would disappear if he did not get out now. I see the Barn going 7-5 next year, maybe. When a ship is sinking you get off.

It seems like he would stay and milk the 1.3 million per year as long as possible.  Does he think his stock is going to fall so low that he couldn't get an Arkansas State type job for 1/2 million less than he makes now?

If the Auburn offense looks as crappy as it did this year, yes.

The contract has supposedly been signed and the presser to announce Gus as HC is supposed to be tomorrow sometime but they have not set the exact time yet.

I'm just speculating, but GM knows he has no future at Auburn, especially with no talent returning. That will only bring his stock down more. We kid about his wife, but that video did go viral. I really think that had a negative effect on his other interviews. If I remember correctly, he is an Arkansas native and may have just been more comfortable being closer to his roots. He's taking a cut in pay, but I think he's made enough, to date, that he can afford it, and that the important thing is to be happy where he is. This will give him time to build his HC resume, albeit at Arky State.

Well seeing he got outscored by Ted Roof in the Iron Bowl, he probably felt lucky to get any HC job he was offered. I bet he's still kicking himself over the Vandy decision. Well maybe his wife is kicking him, but yall get the point.

How does this impact recruiting?  Are there any barn commits that might back out now?  Are we interested in any of them?

The presser is 3:30 tomorrow.

I'm also hearing speculation that Trooper Taylor will probably leave if they don't make him the OC.  Maybe so.

That's a mighty big paycut to go coach a smaller school. Did he not turn down a job last year that offered some big money? Somebody wanted out of Lee County pretty bad.  Wink

Yep Mr. Jamos

He turned down Vandy offer to be there HC. I saw a tweet earlier that Gus is regreting doing so.

Moral of the story-in football, strike while the iron is hot. This is one of worst jobs in 1-A. Crappy conference, overshadowed by the bigger state u, lack of in-state prospects. I hope he and his high school offense rots in backwoods Arkansas.
