Title: How hard will it be
Post by: hscoach on January 08, 2020, 03:10:40 PM
to win another National Championship.  I ask this because of Bama continually having players leaving early as well as coaches leaving to take other positions.  There is no doubt Bama has talent, but can they keep it around long enough to win it all?  This is not a thread to degrade Bama, but to keep people informed about what is going on and the difficulty the staff has to continue dominance.  Look at how many freshmen Bama had to play on defense this year alone as well as the players leaving early this year.

I wonder the same thing hscoach. You will notice I have spoken many times on what has happened to 4 year scholarships and commitment to your team? RTR!

Good question, coach.  I think it will be hard to win another one.  Coach Bryant used to say that it takes a good amount of good luck to win a NC, and that was before playoffs made it more definitive. There seem to be more good, strong teams with depth of roster than there were 4 - 5 years ago.  Against such strong competition, a couple of key injuries and even a great team can be beaten.

One thing I think will be required: an elite QB who can run and pass (and stay healthy.)  All the other stuff has just gotten hard for a HC to manage.

How hard could it be?  In the last 12 years Bama has won it 5 times and was runner-up how many more?  Also, someone wins it every year.  Bama has great talent. We have some phenomenal talent coming back and probably one or two coming in that could be even better than what we have in their respective positions (meaning they will likely become starters as true freshmen).  I fully expect Bama to not just be in the CFP next year but to win it too.

I worry about this too, but am more optimistic when I think how we lost coaches and seniors during the run of Bama's dominance.

Both of these choices are very pertinent to a football team. One thing is we have to find players who will commit to stay to win a NCG. They have to want it. RTR!

A dilemna that many programs would like to have, but yes, it seems to get harder every year. Having said that, this past year was the perfect storm in a negative way for Bama. IMO, it doesn't mean we won't win more. In fact, if we can stay relatively healthy this next season, I very much like our chances, especially if we can hold onto some coaches.

I'm just happy when we win a game.

Like Coach Bryant used to say: "Win the SEC and the rest will take care of itself" (or something like that).

What year were seniors first allowed to leave for the NFL? I can't recall any doing so under the Bear.

I think injuries hurt us more this year than juniors departing for the NFL and coaching changes. The same is true for 2010 (10-3). I also agree with a previous poster that you must have a little luck along the way. I do not except CNS to win another 5 championships before he retires but I do expect us to remain an elite program. I fully expect CNS to win 1 or 2 more before he ends his coaching career.

Thanks. I couldn't even find it on Google.

What do you think about our D-backs next year?

Our DB make me nervous because I wonder if we are gonna be able to cover the big WR's and TE's? RTR!
