Title: Gottfried Fired

Yow, according to several sources, has been unhappy with the lack of effort with the current team.

"They have more than enough talent to get to the NCAA tourney," one ACC coach told ESPN. "They just don't play hard at all."

A Gottfried team with great talent not giving effort? Unthinkable!

Well at the end he did that here. I am just confused why his first 2 or 3 years are OK then all of a sudden his teams quit? RTR!

Impossible!! Quit posting such fake news! He's the best coach he's ever known. Just ask him.

Maybe he just needs to go to a program at a lower level. He seemed to do well at Murray State, but then Bama and now NC State seem to be too much for him. Maybe a less stressful atmosphere would do him good.  :dunno:

Could it be, he still has the Joey Freshwater syndrome?

Hope he gets another job so we don't have to listen to him and his "expertise" as an analyst on TV.

I don't wish any ill fate to befall Gottfried.  He was a Bama basketball player who had a few good years as a Bama coach.  And he's been long gone.

I don't wish him any ill, I just wish he'd had the decency to step aside once he was no longer interested in putting in the work to make Bama a contender.

Gottfried started on my favorite Wimp Sanderson team. The 87 squad that lost to a red hot Providence team that made it to the Final Four. Gottfried was a deadly three point shooter. That team was loaded with talent. Jim Farmer, Derrick McKey, Terry Connor and Michael Ansley along with Gottfried were the starting five. We won the SEC and SEC Tournament.

I also liked Gottfried the first 6-7 years he was at Alabama. He had some good teams. The team with Erwin Dudley and Rod Grizzard was my favorite. They won the SEC and were were a #2 seed in the NCAA. The run to the Elite Eight in 2004 was the best run in our programs history.

Things did not end well with him at Alabama. The same can be said about Mike Shula but both were very good players for us and answered the call went asked to coach the team.

I don't know anything about Gottfried's work ethic.  I do think that he probably hit the ceiling on what he was able to accomplish at Bama.  He was a coach who could get a team into the NCAA Tournament but was never going to win it.   Recruits looking for a championship looked elsewhere.

CAJ, on the other hand, has coached and played very well at the professional level.  (Really an impressive hire.)  That has an appeal to recruits that Gottfried lacks.  CAJ also is a much better coach, and a nice person.   I'm hoping this incoming class is just the start of something special.

Perhaps CAJ can hire Gottfried as an analyst.   ;)
