Title: SEC TOURNEY STARTS WEDNESDAY
Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 12, 2024, 08:42:04 PM
Tourney is in Nashville which is somewhat advantegous for Bama due to number of Tide fans in the area and not far from Alabama. The teams most likely to win the Tourney is Tennessee, Kentucky, or Auburn. The Tide just has too many weaknesses. The main weaknesses are: overall defense with little intensity, too much fouling, only 1 inside power guy (for rebounding, basket intimidation, & rim protection), and not being able to close out games against quality teams. We should have beaten Purdue, Tennessee in the 2nd game, & Creighton.

I'm not very hopeful of Bama's chances in the Big Dance, either. I don't think we will make the Sweet 16, we just can't play defense and we struggle against teams with a good defense. Sorry for the negative comments but reality is harsh. Hope I'm wrong.

Marshall Dillon I believe you have hit the nail on the head. Unless we have a miracle we will be lost against the bigs. We need a couple big men that can play defense and shoot. I guess through recruiting. RTR!

Seems like an accurate assessment unfortunately.

I heard of the game announcers recently complaining that "Bama is playing tired" or something similar.  IMO, that is a bunch of hog-wash!  Bama hasn't played any more than anyone else so if they are truly tired, that is the fault of CNO. HE is primarily responsible for the team's performance and that includes strength and conditioning. Now, I am NOT calling for his removal. I think he is a GREAT coach and we will likely win a lot of games with him.

IMO, the team just doesn't have the killer instinct that they need and when they start getting behind they then just go through the motions... Am I wrong?  :dunno:

I am giving Coach Oats a bye this year. He lost 4 starters from last year and ALL 3 of his assistants. Those are gigantic losses to overcome. Plus, the assistant hired to teach defense has been a bust and will be gone after the season (better be). I'm waiting to see who we get from the portal. We have to get some power guys, 6'8" to 6'11" to play tough around the basket. We have recruited a 6'10" power forward who weighs 200 pounds. Not my idea of a power guy. If he weighed 240 I would say that's what we need. Our recruiting class has 3 players who will be very good players, just don't see the bulk we need.

Well Marshall Dillon you hit the nail on the head. We can't play defense for nothing but we need help in coaching. RTR!

Miss State beat Tennessee like a drum winning easily 73-56. Held UT to 19 points in first half. Next is Auburn vs S. Carolina. I'm going with Auburn on this one. SC played the biggest cupcake non-conference schedule I have seen in a long time. Gave themselves 13 easy victories to start season. The SC Net ranking, which rates their schedule, their wins & losses, and other factors) is 48. The Tide NET is 8, because we played so many good teams like Purdue, Arizona, Creighton, Houston, and more.

Next game for Tide is coming up is with Florida. They have shot or defense up in 2 games even though we beat them in T-Town. Is Rylan Griffin able to play at 100%? He's our best defensive guy and he can hit 3's. We need a total team effort tonight and lots of energy.

Nate Oats signs contract extension with Alabama basketball, making him one of highest paid coaches.
