I was keeping up with the gamecast. Our pitching was dismal, along with the defense. Walks and hit batters killed us.

I'm glad we at least salvaged the last game. The experience against the #3 ranked team over the weekend can't hurt.

Our RPI jumped from mid-60's after last nights game to 29 after today's win. It would have been nice to win two games but we had to have one and we got it. That was a quality road series that will help us prepare for the rugged SEC schedule. We went head to head with the #3 team at their place and held our own. According to the RPI going 1-2 in a series like this helps more than than sweeping a 100+ RPI cupcake.

After coming back from a 4-0 deficit to take the 9-5 lead in the 7th last night, I really thought we had grabbed all the momentum, but they let it all get away in the bottom half of the inning. But it is what it is and I hope they learned something from it. You're right in that it should be good experience to take into SEC play.

They are indeed a strong program. My youngest daughter and her husband live in Lafayette. We visit them 2 or 3 times a year and we regularly drive by the ULL campus. Very impressive. The locals talk a lot about the baseball team.

Five doubles a home run and 14 total hits helped push the Alabama baseball team past the Houston Cougars, 8-3, on Sunday afternoon inside Cougar Stadium. With the win, Alabama improves to 4-2 this season and has now recorded 2,500 wins in the program’s history.

“We were able to put some offense together, particularly in the middle of the game, and we extended the lead late, so it was a good win for us,” said Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard. “Early in the season you’re trying to get at-bats against quality arms, and Houston has a tremendous pitching staff. I believe our team will grow from working against the type of pitchers we saw this weekend, and we can use the experience we gained in this series to help us as we move forward.”

The Crimson Tide had four players record multi-hit games on the way to the victory, including Mikey White (2), Casey Hughston (2), Kyle Overstreet (3) and J.C. Wilhite (3). The Alabama offense was led by Wilhite’s career-high three hits, which included a home run – the first of his career. White added two doubles and finished the day 2-for-4 with a team-high three runs scored.

Casey Hughston had another good weekend. He is batting .720 (18/25) with 11 runs scored, 11 RBI, 6 doubles, 1 triple and 1 HR. That is in 6 games. He has also walked once and HBP twice. He is 2 for 2 stolen based and has not made an error.

It is early in the year but that is NCAA Player of the Year stats.
